The Jeep® brand recently announced that it would be releasing a new Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid in 2020. With a recent surge in eco-friendly designs across the industry, the new Wrangler PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has become a reality. Offering eco-friendly design without sacrificing power, the new Wrangler is truly innovative.
The new Wrangler PHEV was confirmed at that recent LA Auto Show, according to The News Wheel. While the Jeep® brand isn’t well known for its electronic powertrain designs, the Fiat-Chrysler company has released a Chrysler Pacifica minivan with up to 84 combined MPGe* thanks to a hybrid powertrain system. The new Wrangler will also be adding a 3.0-liter diesel engine in 2019.
The new hybrid option will likely come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a motor generator system. This will allow the vehicle to use a gasoline-powered engine for accelerating or for tricky terrain, while the electric system can be used for cruising to save on gas.
The new Wrangler PHEV is a couple years away, but the excitement is widespread. The Wrangler has traditionally been a vehicle for those who love the outdoors, so it makes sense that the brand would seek to add an intelligent powertrain that’s environmentally friendly.
